Ohara Koson

ohara koson painted birds and animals in the shin-hanga revival of the early twentieth century — moonlit crows, herons in rain, hawks on snowy branches. trained in kyoto, he worked under three names across his career (koson, hōson, shōson) and exported nearly his entire output to the united states and europe, where his prints sold in numbers his japanese contemporaries could only dream of. the line is quieter than the ukiyo-e masters he descended from, and that's the point. crows in moonlight is in the catalog.
