John James Audubon's Roseate Spoonbill from The Birds of America, taken from BNF Gallica's gigapixel CC0 scan, on archival fine art paper.

Plate CCCXXXVI from The Birds of America, the spoonbill occupies the page with its distinctive spatulate bill — a tool for wading and sifting, rendered with the precision Audubon gave to every anatomical detail. The pale rose plumage catches light where the print allows it. Audubon saw utility in form. The bill's shape wasn't decorative; it was evidence of how the bird hunted. Every specimen was a problem in anatomy that happened to fly.

This is reproduced from BNF Gallica's CC0 high-resolution scan at full resolution, printed on archival fine art paper, ready to hang.
