John James Audubon's 1831 plate, taken from BNF Gallica's gigapixel CC0 scan of The Birds of America, framed and ready to hang.
Plate CXXI from The Birds of America (1827–1838), Audubon's life-size series painted from freshly-prepared specimens. The Snowy Owl pair sit in profile, watching across a dark night sky. The original convention required a "Double Elephant Folio" — every print in the original series is roughly a metre tall. Even at A1 we're scaled down.
This is reproduced from BNF Gallica's CC0 high-resolution scan at full resolution, printed on archival fine art paper and framed in solid wood.
