Gazette du Bon Ton Me Voici — George Barbier, poster
George Barbier's 1920 pochoir illustration for Gazette du Bon Ton, taken from Wikimedia Commons CC0 scan, on archival fine art paper.
Me Voici — "Here I am" — is the confidence of the 1920s distilled into a single figure. Barbier's woman is direct, frontal, unapologetic in her elegance. The pochoir's translucent layers build depth without weight. After the war, fashion became more streamlined, geometry sharper. Barbier's response was to strip away ornament and emphasize line. The result feels both of the Jazz Age and permanently modern.
