The Kiss — Klimt, poster

Painted between 1907 and 1908 at the height of the Vienna Secession, The Kiss wraps two lovers in a gold-tiled cloak that dissolves the boundary between figure and ornament. Klimt's "golden phase" was about applying real gold leaf to canvas — the original surface still glints in person at the Belvedere. Reproduction can't match the metallic catch of the original, but the composition stands on its own.
