F. Champenois Imprimeur-Editeur — Mucha, poster
Alphonse Mucha's 1898 promotional poster for the Paris printing house F. Champenois, taken from Wikimedia Commons CC0 scan, on archival fine art paper.
Mucha designed this elegant panel to promote the printing company that produced so many of his own posters — a kind of visual gratitude. F. Champenois is ornament in service of text, the figure framing the words without overwhelming them. It's a lesson in restraint, subtle enough that it took commercial pressure to teach it. The woman's face is serene, knowing. She's advertising the beauty of the printed word itself.
