Divan Japonais — Toulouse-Lautrec, framed
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's 1892 poster for the Divan Japonais cabaret, taken from the Met's high-resolution scan, framed and ready to hang.
In Divan Japonais, Lautrec strips away almost everything — the silhouette of a woman's hat, bold and black against a golden stage, the orchestra conductor visible below, a hint of shadow that suggests depth without rendering it. It's Japanese woodblock meets Parisian nightclub: economy of line, psychological intensity, colour applied with surgical precision. The composition is so radical it feels modern a hundred years later.
This is reproduced from the Met's high-resolution archival scan, printed on archival fine art paper and framed in solid wood.
