Schiele

egon schiele drew bodies the way he found them — angular, unsettled, refusing the easy line. a protégé of klimt who broke from the gold and chose ink and watercolour, he was jailed briefly in 1912 for the moral panic his work provoked. by twenty-five he had become the most uncompromising draughtsman in vienna; by twenty-eight he was dead in the 1918 flu pandemic, three days after his pregnant wife. seated woman with bent knee (1917) is in the catalog.
