John James Audubon's American Flamingo from The Birds of America, taken from BNF Gallica's gigapixel CC0 scan, framed and ready to hang.

Plate CCCCXXXXVI from The Birds of America, the flamingo stands in Audubon's characteristic profile — solitary, almost architectural in its stillness. The bird's curve is its argument: the long neck, the bent legs, the precise beak all drawn from a specimen that Audubon had prepared himself. Late in the series, his technique had become almost architectural. The bird is flatter, more decorative, but no less precise.

This is reproduced from BNF Gallica's CC0 high-resolution scan at full resolution, printed on archival fine art paper and framed in solid wood.
