Ernst Haeckel's Radiolaria plate from Kunstformen der Natur, taken from Wikimedia Commons CC0 archive scan, framed and ready to hang.

Radiolaria were Haeckel's life work — he spent decades cataloguing these single-celled organisms, their silica skeletons arranged in geometries so precise they look designed. This plate from Kunstformen der Natur (1899–1904) is where art and biology fuse completely. He drew what the microscope revealed, and the forms were already perfect. The radiolarians didn't need ornamentation; they needed only accurate representation. Haeckel understood that symmetry is a language nature speaks fluently.
