Papillons Plate 4 — E A Seguy, poster
E. A. Séguy's Papillons Plate 4 from Papillons, taken from Wikimedia Commons CC0 archive scan, on archival fine art paper.
Plate 4 from Papillons (1921), Séguy's Art Deco butterfly study — butterflies arranged in geometric precision across the page. Séguy was a commercial artist as much as a naturalist; the butterflies are rendered with clean lines and bright colours, almost heraldic in their stillness. This is entomological illustration done with modernist restraint: each butterfly is a form problem, not a specimen. The page reads as decoration before it reads as science.
