Vincent van Gogh's 1888 night cafe scene from Arles, taken from the Kröller-Müller's CC0 high-resolution scan, on archival fine art paper.

Painted in September 1888 in Arles' Place du Forum, Cafe Terrace at Night is van Gogh's experiment in painting darkness with colour rather than black. The yellow awning glows under gaslight, the cobblestones reflect, the sky shifts from deep blue to a star-flecked horizon. Van Gogh told his sister he'd painted the night without using black at all — only blues, violets, and greens. The result is a night that feels alive, not absent. The little figures around the tables are almost incidental; the real subject is the colour of evening.

This is reproduced from the Kröller-Müller Museum's CC0 archive scan at full resolution, printed on archival fine art paper, ready to hang.
